Facial Room Setup Checklist: Equipment, Layout, and Supplies

For many spas the facial room is the core revenue room, so it is worth getting your facial room setup right the first time. Here is a checklist covering layout, equipment, supplies, and the client-experience details that matter.

Layout basics

• Room size: plan for at least 10 x 12 feet, which leaves working clearance on three sides of the treatment table.
• Plumbing: an in-room sink saves repeated trips down the hall between steps and between clients.
• Electrical: dedicated outlets for the facial machine, steamer, and electric table; plan for more outlets than you think you need.
• Lighting: dimmable overhead lighting plus a magnifying lamp at the table.

Equipment checklist

• Electric treatment table (a 3-motor table lets you reposition the client without interrupting the treatment)
• Multi-function facial machine (microdermabrasion, ultrasound, and galvanic in one unit)
• Facial steamer
• Magnifying lamp
• Practitioner stool, ergonomic and height-adjustable
• Rolling trolley for instruments
• Hot towel warmer (clients notice this one)
• Linens, headrest covers, and disposable supplies

Supplies to stock

• Professional back-bar skincare for treatments
• Retail sizes of the same lines for resale
• Disposable applicators, spatulas, gauze, and gloves

The details clients feel

Sound (a white noise machine), scent (a subtle diffuser), and temperature (a warm room and warm towels) are what help turn a facial into a rebooking. Budgeting a few hundred dollars here is a modest investment in the client experience.
