Great equipment is only half of cold-chain protection — daily habits do the rest. These practices help keep inventory safe.
Placement
Give the unit breathing room for airflow, keep it out of direct sun and away from heat sources, and use a dedicated circuit where possible.
Monitor continuously
- Use a calibrated digital thermometer or data logger
- Record temperatures at least twice daily (or log continuously)
- Review min/max readings for excursions
Alarm & backup plan
Set high/low alarms and write a simple response plan: who to call, where to move stock, and how to document an excursion. Battery backup on the alarm is essential.
Train the whole team
Everyone who opens the fridge should know the rules: keep the door closed, do not store food or vaccines in the door, and never overload airflow.
