Mammoline Mammography Illuminator: Variable Light Intensity and Masking

The Wolf X-Ray Mammoline Mammography Illuminator is a wall-mounted, dual-tier film viewer built specifically for reading mammography film against the American College of Radiology's (ACR) brightness and masking requirements. It remains a mainstay in facilities that read film-based mammograms, maintain film archives for comparison studies, or need a dedicated high-intensity viewer for training, veterinary imaging, or quality-control work — anywhere a consistent, ACR-grade light source matters more than a general-purpose viewbox.

At full intensity the Mammoline produces more than 7,600 candela per square meter, well above the ACR's recommended minimum of 3,400 candela per square meter for mammography film reading, and a built-in dimmer lets staff bring that down to 270 candela for lower-density films or reader comfort. Wolf's reflector design disperses that light evenly across the viewing surface to eliminate the hot spots that can obscure subtle findings on cheaper viewers, and state-of-the-art solid-state ballasts deliver flicker-free, instant-on lighting with no warm-up lag.

Film handling is built around ACR-mandated masking shutters that glide smoothly on horizontal and vertical tracks and seal completely light-proof, so readers can isolate exactly the film area under review and block stray light from adjacent films. The two-tier viewing area (38.5" x 11" per tier) holds up to eight 24 x 30 cm mammograms at once, each held in place with gravity roller film grips for quick, tool-free mounting and removal between cases.

The cabinet measures 48"L x 36"H x 5"D in a baked-on enamel finish and installs via Wolf's included E-Z mounting bar wall-mount system; an optional mobile floor stand is available for departments that need to relocate the unit, though the cabinet itself cannot be recessed into a wall. This standard version (SKU 28601) runs on standard 110/120V electrical service and is UL 60601-1 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 601.1 certified.
