What Emergency Equipment Does a Med Spa Need? (2026 Legal Checklist)
If your med spa offers injectables, IV therapy, or any procedure that can trigger an allergic reaction, regulators expect you to handle an emergency on site. So what emergency equipment does a med spa need? Here is what that means in practice.
The Short Answer
State medical boards commonly expect aesthetic practices to have the following on site:
- Epinephrine (auto-injector or vial) for anaphylaxis (Rx)
- Antihistamines (diphenhydramine) for allergic reactions
- Aspirin for a suspected cardiac event, and oral glucose for low blood sugar
- Airway management supplies and portable oxygen
- IV catheters and fluids
- AED, charged and accessible
- Pulse oximeter and blood pressure cuff
- A stocked crash cart, checked and logged monthly
(Rx) = prescription item, sourced through your medical director.
Why Med Spas Get Inspected
Adverse events get reported, and board complaints get investigated. When an inspector walks in, emergency readiness is one of the first things they check, because it is the one that protects patients when something goes wrong.
What Inspectors Actually Look For
- Emergency medications in date, with a written log
- A crash cart checklist signed off monthly
- Staff with current BLS certification and assigned emergency roles
- Written emergency protocols posted where staff can see them

The Simplest Way to Be Ready
Piecing this together from five suppliers is how things get missed. Our Aesthetic Emergency Readiness (AER) Bundle organizes the non-prescription side into one mobile crash cart built for med spas: four labeled response kits (vascular occlusion, anaphylaxis response, assessment and monitoring, and documentation with drill and audit logs) in a Harloff 6-drawer aluminum cart, for $3,225. Medications, oxygen, and your AED are sourced separately, and the cart gives each one a labeled home.
Important: requirements vary by state and by the procedures you offer. Verify your obligations with your state medical board. This article is guidance, not legal advice.
