Harloff Medical Cart Buying Guide: V-Series vs A-Series vs M-Series
This Harloff medical cart buying guide compares the three Harloff lines you will see most often: V-Series, A-Series, and M-Series. Harloff carts are a common sight in hospitals, surgery centers, and clinics, but these three series are built differently and suit different jobs. Here's how to pick.
V-Series: pre-configured steel carts
The V-Series is Harloff's line of ready-to-go steel carts, sold in set configurations rather than built to order. Models come in two cabinet widths (24 inch and 30 inch) with 2 to 6 drawers, and are grouped as procedure, isolation, and emergency (crash) carts. Each has a powder-coated steel body, full-extension ball-bearing drawer slides, 5 inch swivel casters (two with brakes), and pre-drilled holes for V-Series side accessories. For example, the V24-4K Procedure Cart has four drawers (two 3 inch, one 6 inch, one 12 inch), a key lock, and measures 34 inches high by 29.5 inches wide.
Best for: clinics, procedure rooms, and isolation areas that want a durable, straightforward cart in a standard layout without custom options.
A-Series: lightweight aluminum carts
The A-Series is Harloff's aluminum line. Harloff describes it as fully welded uni-body aluminum construction with a scratch-resistant powder coat, so these carts are lighter to push and reposition than comparable steel carts. The A-Series is not just an anesthesia cart: it comes in mini (18 inch), medium (24 inch), and full-size (30 inch) widths and several heights, and is configured as crash carts, anesthesia carts, treatment carts, pediatric carts, and general storage carts, with key, electronic, and breakaway lock options. Examples include the A-Series Aluminum Cart, E-Lock (MPA3024E04-AN) and the A-Series Anesthesia Cart (MPA3030E07+MD30-ANS).
Best for: small practices and treatment rooms where a lighter cart is easier to move, plus any department that wants aluminum instead of steel, including anesthesia and crash cart setups.
M-Series: heavy-duty steel modular carts
The M-Series is Harloff's steel workhorse. It uses uni-body steel construction with a powder coat finish, a fully curved protective bumper, 5 inch casters, ergonomic side push handles, and pre-threaded holes for accessories. It offers a wide range of sizes: mini, medium, and standard widths, heights from short up to XX-tall, and many drawer and lock combinations. An XX-tall standard-width cart like the MDS3036K08 offers 36 inches of vertical drawer space across eight drawers. Configurations cover anesthesia, emergency, isolation, treatment, procedure, and equipment carts, such as the M-Series Tall Medical Equipment Cart (MDS3030K06) and the compact M-Series Isolation Mini Cart (M3DS1824K03).
Best for: hospitals, surgery centers, and high-volume procedure areas that need maximum capacity, a heavy-duty steel build, and a cart configured to a specific workflow.
Many accessories, including IV poles, oxygen tank holders, glove box holders, sharps containers, and cardiac boards, are designed to fit both M-Series and A-Series carts, so you can standardize accessories across both lines.
